Inease was the oldest of the Evans girls and was married to Manuel Perry, Sr. (Uncle News). She resided in Mt. Hope, West Virginia until she passed.  She was a homemaker and mother of eight (8) children.

Aunt Inease is described by her children as loving and served the Lord from a young age.  She reared her children in church and the Perry children could be found singing the gospel on “any given Sunday” while growing up.  She left a legacy of Godly principles that are forever ingrained within her children.

Cleopatra Jones

Born: May 2, 1922

Place of Birth: Mead Poca, West Virginia

Deceased

Children:  Twelve (12)  Phillip Jones, Jr., Andrew Jones, Michael Jones, James Jones, Evelyn Jones, Phyllis Honeycutt, Carolyn Coats, Yvonne Law, Drema Jones, Donita Beard, Cheryl Hutchens, and Rhonda Dean

Cleopatra was affectionately known as “Patra” and was a woman with a meek, humble spirit and a sweet disposition.  She gave her life to God in her early years and it was her mission to spread the word of God to all who would listen and a few who didn’t want to.  She had a strong sense of family and quickly defended them when necessary.  She loved people and always had something good to say abouteveryone. Her children often teased her by saying, “If you could find something

good to say about the devil, you would.”

She met and married the late Bishop Phillip Jones, Sr. (Uncle Junior) and resided in Sun, Scarbro, and finally Beckley, WV.  She was a homemaker and left her mark on the lives of those who were blessed to have known her with her undying faith, love and trust in God. While on her bed of affliction she never failed to acknowledge the good things God had done in her life. Even in sickness, she joyfully awaited her home going, her favorite song was “I’ll Fly Away”.

On April 17th, a memorial service was held at First Baptist Church-North [Rev. Wright] for our long-time Kisumu Sister City Committee Chairman Greta Evans who died February 22, 2004, after battling cancer. Greta was passionate about Kenya, its women and children. She willed a part of her estate to develop an educational trust in her memory that will allow Kisumu students to attend Kenyan colleges.  She was an inspiration to us all and we’ll miss her for years to come. Her spirit will live through her legacy that will help do the good works that the Kisumu Sister City Committee is committed to carry out.

Additionally , the Greta Evans Memorial Scholarship for Cultural Diversity was established by the Miss Roanoke Valley Scholarship Program for male and female high school seniors who are active in the community and school environment.  This $300 scholarship is to honor Greta Evans.
